Mymensingh Division clinched their maiden Women’s National Cricket League title when they beat Rajshahi Division by 48 runs in the final round match at the Bangla Trac Cricket Academy Ground in Rajshahi on Monday.

Captain Nigar Sultana Joty led from the front, scoring 80 off 64 balls to help Mymensingh post 132 in 20 overs. In response, Rajshahi were bundled out for 84 in 17 overs.


Earlier in the day, Chattogram defeated Rangpur at the Shahid Kamaruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi, making Mymensingh’s game a must-win.

With Mymensing’svictory Chattogram had to remain content with as runners-up in the 13th National Cricket League. This was the fourth time the NCL had been played in a T20 format.

Joty, who was adjudged the player of the league after scoring 253 runs at a hefty average of 63.25, said that the league had been an ideal preparation for her ahead of the next month’s Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in the UAE.

‘As a batter, this is a good feeling. I’ve always struggled with consistency. I have tried to contribute in every game. Perhaps I started slowly, but I made up for it afterward. But one thing I must mention is that the wickets were excellent for the batters in both venues. So the preparation has been excellent,’ said Joty after the match.

She also credited the Bangladesh Cricket Board for organising the league during a difficult situation.

‘It’s an excellent move by the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Despite recent challenges, the BCB’s women’s wing has successfully arranged and concluded the NCL. Certainly, it will help us perform at the World Cup.’

Chattogram’s Sathi Rani Bormon finished as the leading scorer of the league with 284 runs, while Mymensingh’s Shorna Akter became the highest wicket taker with 14 wickets.
