Academic activities in all government primary schools, government and non-government secondary level schools and colleges across Bangladesh are going to resume on Sunday after a spell of frequent changes in the government decisions amid heatwave.

The educational institutions have been instructed to follow earlier directives to shorten the duration of each class and suspend all outdoor activities.


All pre-primary level classes will remain closed until further notice, which stayed closed since April 21.

Meanwhile, some high schools and colleges were opened on Saturday.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department issued a fresh heatwave alert on Saturday for the next 24 hours over Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions from 6:00pm of May 4.

In its monthly outlook released on May 2, the BMD said that the average temperature in April was 3 degrees Celsius hotter than the average normal temperature over certain 30 years.

Following the heatwave, educational institutions across the country suspended in-person classes between April 21 and April 27 and resumed in-person classes on April 28.

The education ministry on April 28 ordered the closure of secondary-level educational institutions in five districts on April 29.

But on April 29, the High Court ordered the closure of all primary and secondary level schools, colleges, and madrassahs across Bangladesh until May 2.

Following the order, on the same day, the primary and mass education ministry soon declared the government primary schools, Shishu Kalyan Trust schools, and Bureau of

Non-Formal Education learning centres closed until May 2.

The primary and mass education ministry officials told 抖阴精品 on May 2 that the classes would be resumed from May 5 and continued as per an earlier notice as the High Court order was effective till May 2.

The schools, with one shift, would conduct classes between 8:00am and 11:30am and the schools, with two shifts, would conduct classes between 8:00am and 9:30am for the first shift and between 9:45am and 11:30am for the second shift, read the ministry鈥檚 notice.

Assembly at all schools will remain closed until the temperature becomes bearable, the notice added.

On Saturday, the education ministry in a press release said that from Sunday in-person classes would be resumed at all secondary level schools, colleges, madrassahs and technical educational institutions, maintaining conditions mentioned in a circular issued on April 25.

The circular said that classes would be held on Saturdays to cover up the learning gap and assemblies would be suspended and academic activities outside the classrooms would be limited until the heatwave became bearable.

On April 29, the education ministry, however, ordered the closure of secondary-level educational institutions in 27 districts on April 30, ignoring the High Court order.

On May 2, the education ministry announced that from Saturday classes at all secondary level educational institutions would be held as usual.

On Friday, the ministry announced that all secondary-level educational institutions in 25 districts, including Dhaka, would remain closed only for Saturday for the ongoing heatwave.

抖阴精品 correspondent in Chattogram reported that some high schools and colleges, like Chittagong Collegiate School and College and Eastern Refinery Model High School in the port city, took in-person classes on Saturday.

Many students fell sick in the heatwave during classes and the presence of students in different districts was low, while the classes were resumed at different times.
