The education ministry on Tuesday postponed the Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations at Phulgazi and Parshuram upazilas in Feni only for the day due to the worsening flood situation.

The exams started on June 30 across the country except in the Sylhet division.

The education ministry earlier postponed the examinations in the division till聽 July 8 following the worsening flood situation.

Professor Tapan Kumar Sarkar, chief of the inter-education board coordination committee, said that the decision to postpone the exams for the students under the Cumilla education board, madrassah board and technical board in Phulgazi and Parshuram upazilas was taken due to flood.

At 6:00pm on Tuesday, he said that no new decision was taken for postponing the exams in these two upazilas today (Wednesday).

Tapan Kumar, also chairman of the Dhaka education board, said that the routine of the deferred examinations would be published later.

As per earlier schedule, the theoretical part of the ongoing HSC and equivalent exams was to be held between June 30 and August 11 and the practical part of the exams was to be held between August 12 and 21.

On the second day of the exams, meanwhile, out of total 10,10,787 candidates, excluding the candidates under the technical board, 13,709 were absent while 19 examinees and a hall invigilator were expelled.

Multiple disasters have struck Bangladesh due to continued heavy rainfall all over the country and in upstream areas for the past four days.

About two million people were stranded in Sylhet, Sunamganj, Habiganj, and Moulvibazar before the latest wave of flash floods hit on Monday.

Last year, the HSC and equivalent exams began on August 17 under eight boards except under the Chattogram, madrassah and technical education boards due to the flood situation.

Later, the exams started under these three boards on August 27.

The education minister, Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury, at a press conference on June 30 said that they were trying to take steps to hold the HSC and equivalent exams from April from the next year.
