
The government on Wednesday postponed the Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations which were scheduled to be resumed on August 11.
With this decision made, exams now have become uncertain for 14.5 lakh candidates.
The education ministry issued an order in this regard.
The order reads that for unavoidable reasons, HSC and equivalent exams from August 11 were postponed and a new schedule of the exams would be announced later.
Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee chairman Tapan Kumar Sarkar earlier informed ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Tuesday that some question papers of the exams had been damaged which was reported at various police stations across the country.
Following this, they had informed the education ministry about the situation on Tuesday, he added.
Amid the recent student protests, the authorities had previously suspended the HSC and equivalent exams for all 11 boards from July 18 to August 10 in phases.
The exams, which were rescheduled to be held between August 11 and September 18, almost a month later of its original schedule, are now to face further delays.
All of government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous offices, private establishments and educational institutions reopened on Tuesday while curfew remained in force till 6:00am on the day, said a press release of Inter Services Public Relations Directorate issued on August 5 night.
The announcement came hours after Sheikh Hasina resigned as prime minister and fled to India amid mass uprising led by student protesters.
During the protests, the government announced the indefinite closure of all primary, secondary, higher secondary and tertiary level educational institutions in phases.
Earlier, Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee on August 1 issued a notice stating that the ongoing HSC and equivalent examinations under all 11 boards from August 4 were suspended for unavoidable reasons; from August 11 the postponed exams would be held however.
As per a new schedule, the postponed theoretical parts of the exams were scheduled to be held between August 11 and September 8 and the practical exams were to be held in September 9–18.
According to the original schedule, the theoretical part of the exams was scheduled to end by August 11 and practical part by August 21.
