With these resignations, a total of 14 public university vice-chancellors stepped down after the ouster of Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5 amid mass uprising led by students.

The officials started to submit resignation letters as students at different universities gave them the ultimatum to do so.

Principals of Dhaka College and Rajshahi College applied for transfer on Monday following the student protest which is ongoing at different educational institutions across the country.

He stepped down an hour after several hundred students took position in front of the college administration building in the morning demanding his immediate resignation.

The students alleged that when the leaders and activists of the Awami League-backed student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League attacked the college students during quota reform student protests the principal did not protect the students.

Nearly 100 senior officials of the 14 universities also resigned so far.
