The interim government’s education adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud said that the government would return to the previous curriculum gradually as the new curriculum seemed to be not implementable in Bangladesh.

The previous curriculum would be returned as much as possible without affecting the learning of the students, he said.

Wahiduddin was talking with the reporters on his first day at the ministry at the secretariat on Sunday after his taking oath as one of the advisers on Friday.

The government in 2023 started implementing the new national curriculum which is scheduled to be implemented by 2027 up to Class XII.

The previous school curriculum was developed in 2012.

Wahiduddin Mahmud on Sunday said that they would revise the curriculum as per the country’s requirement and gradually would go back to the previous curriculum.

Recently, 18 public university vice-chancellors stepped down after the ouster of Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5.

About the situation, the adviser said that eligible people would be appointed as vice-chancellors in these universities soon through reviewing their academic and administrative skills.

He also said that for partisan attitude, the relationship between students and teachers was deteriorated while the government would try to make an education-friendly environment.

They were also considering about including eligible people in different educational institutions’ governing bodies, he continued.

If quality workforces were not created then problems in different sectors would not be solved, he added.
