The Election Commission, headed by chief election commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal, is scheduled to hold a press conference this noon amid speculation that the chief election commission and other election commissioners might resign.
The chief election commissioner informed about the press conference while leaving his Nirbachab Bhaban office at Agargaon on Wednesday..
When reporters asked whether he was resigning or not, he said, 鈥業 will not say anything about it now. I will give details at the press conference tomorrow [Thursday] at noon.鈥�
Without giving any detail, he also said that the president called him for a meeting.
Awal-led five-member Election Commission conducted the January 7 general election amid boycott of most of the opposition parties.
On February 26, 2022, former senior secretary Awal was appointed as the new chief election commissioner.
Other members of the commission are Begum Rashida Sultana, Ahsan Habib Khan, Md Alamgir and Anisur Rahman.
