Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association polls will be held on the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation premises on Friday.

According to the election commission office, 570 artistes are eligible to cast their votes in the polls to elect executive committee members of the association for 2024-2026 term.


The election is scheduled to be held from 9:00am to 5:00pm with a one-hour break from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.

Election commission chairman Khorshed Alam Khosru on Thursday said that the commission took all the measures to make the election free and fair.

He added that the commission received a written allegation from an election candidate Sadia Mirza against another candidate Monowar Hossain Dipjol for violating election code of conduct.

According to the code of conduct, contesting candidates cannot give money or gratuity to influence voters directly or indirectly during elections. Candidates cannot go door to door to ask for votes. They cannot influence and embarrass voters by doing that, said Khosru.

‘We have served notice to Monowar Hossain Dipjol to reply within six hours,’ added Khosru.

He also urged all to follow the election code of conducts on polling day.

A magistrate will conduct mobile court on the BFDC premises to make the election fair, added Khosru.

A total of 48 candidates, including six independent candidates, are contesting against 21 posts in the polls and in two panels, namely, Misa Sawdagar-Monowar Hossain Dipjol and Mahmud Koli-Nipun Akhter.

In the Misa-Dipjol panel, Misa Sawdagar is contesting for president while DA Tayeb and Masum Parvez Rubel for vice-presidents, Monowar Hossain Dipjol for general secretary, Arman for assistant general secretary, Joy Chowdhury for organisational secretary, Alexander Bo for international affairs secretary, Jaki Alomgir for office and publicity secretary, Don for culture and sports secretary and Komol for treasurer posts.

Besides, Ali Raj, Rozina, Shuchorita, Subrata, Dilara Yasmin, Shahnur, Nana Shah, Ratna Kabir, Chunnu, Sanju John and Firoz Shahi are contesting for executive council member posts from the panel.

In the Koli-Nipun panel, Mahmud Koli is contesting for president while Amit Hasan and Danny Sidak for vice-presidents, Nipun Akhter for general secretary, Bappy Shah for assistant general secretary, Anjana Rahman for organisational secretary, Maruf Akib for international affairs secretary, Kabila for office and publicity secretary, Mamnun Emon for culture and sports secretary and Azad Khan for treasurer posts.

Besides, Sujata Azim, Nader Chowdhury, Pirzada Shahidul Harun, Poly, Jasmin Akhter, Tanvir Tonu, Md Saiful, Sadia Mirza, Sony Rahman, Helena Jahangir, Shah Sabbir Chowdhury Saif are contesting for executive council member posts from the Koli-Nipun panel.

Moreover, Srabon Shah is contesting for general secretary while Yousuf Khan, Nasrin, Niranjan Sarkar, Badol Sheikh and Swapna for executive council members posts independently.

Khorshed Alam Khosru is acting as the chairman while AJ Rana and BH Nishan are the members of the election commission.
