
A writ petition was filed with the High Court on Wednesday seeking the cancellation of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association polls for 2024-2026 term on the charges of electoral irregularities and fraud.
The defeated candidate for general secretary post actress Nasreen Akhter Nipun submitted the petition through lawyer Palash Chandra Roy.
Besides, the petition also sought an injunction on the newly formed committee of Misa Sawdagar and Monowar Hossain Dipjol.
The writ was filed with the court of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque.
Palash Chandra Roy on Thursday told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that he filed the writ petition on behalf of Nipun alleging violation of some electoral rules during the polls, such as forcing his client’s polling agents to leave the polling centre, giving money to influence voters and others.
The election commission chairman Khorshed Alam Khosru said that he would comment on the matter only after reading the documents as it was a legal matter.
The election to the BFAA was held on the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation premises on April 19 and the results were announced on April 20.
A total of 48 candidates, including six independent candidates, contested against 21 posts in the election in two panels, namely, Misa Sawdagar-Monowar Hossain Dipjol and Mahmud Koli-Nipun Akhter.
Misa Sawdagar was elected president and Monowar Hossain Dipjol was elected general secretary in the election.
Misa Sawdagar and Mahmud Koli contested for the post of president while Monowar Hossain Dipjol, Nipun Akhter and Srabon Shah contested for the post of general secretary.
Misa Sawdagar bagged 265 votes while Mahmud Koli got 170 votes. Besides, Monowar Hossain Dipjol bagged 225 votes, Nipun Akhter bagged 209 votes and Srabon Shah bagged one vote.
