The adjudicatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee of FIFA on Thursday announced punitive actions against five individuals of the Bangladesh Football Federation, including its senior vice-president Abdus Salam Murshedy, for corruption and misconduct.
Murshedy, also the chairman of the BFF finance committee and a lawmaker from the ruling Bangladesh Awami League, has been ordered to pay a fine of Swiss Franc 10,000 (Tk 12.80 lakh) for breaching the FIFA code of ethics.
Former BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag has been banned for an additional year from any football-related activity and was ordered to pay a fine of Swiss Franc 20,000 (Tk 25.60 lakh) for multiple breaches of the FIFA code of ethics.
In 2023, Shohag was banned for two years from all football-related activities and was fined Swiss Franc 10,000 (Tk 12.80 lakh) for corruption.
The independent Ethics Committee also banned Abu Hossain, former chief financial officer of the BFF, and Mizanur Rahman, former BFF operations manager, for two years and fined Swiss Franc 10,000 (Tk 12.80 lakh) each.
Imrul Hasan Sharif, procurement and store officer of the BFF, has been ordered to undergo compliance training provided by FIFA and was warned about his future conduct.
All must pay their separate penalties within the next 30 days, beginning on May 23, FIFA said.
Murshedy, the senior most official to be penalised by FIFA, could not be reached for comments.
‘The decisions were taken following separate hearings and upon careful analysis, in each of the applicable proceedings, of both the evidence provided before the adjudicatory chamber and the evidence collected during the investigations conducted by the investigatory chamber,’ the statement by FIFA read.
‘The adjudicatory chamber was comfortably satisfied that the above individuals were involved with and/or participated in a number of transactions supported with false and/or falsified documentation, which were paid, or expected to be paid, with FIFA funds,’ it added.
BFF banned Shohag for life following his earlier sanctions by FIFA, while Abu Hossain and Mizanur Rahman resigned from the organisation.
