
Bangladesh has lodged a formal protest to the government of India on the killing of a 13-year-old Bangladeshi girl, Shwarna Das of Juri upazila in Moulvibazar, who was shot and killed by Border Security Force of India on September 1 in the bordering district.
‘In the protest note sent to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka today, Bangladesh strongly protested and condemned such ruthless acts and expressed deep concern over the incidents,’ said a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued in Dhaka on Thursday.
The government reminded that such incidents of border killing are undesirable and unwarranted and such actions are in violation of the provisions of the Joint Indo-Bangladesh Guidelines for Border Authorities, 1975, according to the release.
The government called upon the Indian government to stop repetition of such heinous acts and conduct enquiries into all border killings, identify the responsible persons and bring them to justice.
The members of Moulvibazar Bar Association in a statement on Thursday protested at the killing of minor girl Swarna Das by BSF firing at Lalarchak border of Kulaura upazila, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in the district reported.
‘We strongly condemn and protest against such inhumane and brutal killings. We are concerned about such deadly activities and human rights violations by the Indian BSF along the border with Bangladesh,’ said the statement.
The lawyers also called for bringing the killers to justice and refraining from such acts in future.
On September 1, the Indian border guard BSF shot dead Swarna Das, a student of class eight at local Nirod Bihari High School and daughter of Parendra Das of Kalnigarh village of Paschim Juri union, in Lalarchak border area of Kulaura upazila in Moulvibazar.
