Bangladesh interim government chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is going to attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos of Switzerland scheduled for January 21-24.

‘Chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum scheduled for January 21 to January 24,’ said foreign ministry spokesperson Mohammad Rafiqul Alam told the weekly press briefing at the ministry on Thursday.

He said that Professor Yunus would engage with the global leaders on regional and global issues in addition to his bilateral engagements at the WEF meeting in Switzerland.

The chief adviser’s special envoy on international affairs Lutfey Siddiqui and principal coordinator on SDG Affairs Lamiya Morshed would accompany Muhammad Yunus during the visit, he said.

Responding to a question, Rafiqul, also director general of the public diplomacy wing of the foreign ministry, said that the ministry was conveyed that Bangladesh’s ambassador to the United States of America Asad Alam Siam was invited to attend the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20.

Asked whether anyone from the interim government was invited to Trump’s inauguration, Alam said that it was customary for foreign mission chiefs stationed in the USA to receive invitations to the oath-taking ceremony of the US president.

‘This is a traditional occasion and the invitation letter we received clearly states that the heads of foreign missions in the US are invited to the event,’ he explained.
