The National Board of Revenue on Thursday announced deadline extension for filing income tax returns for both individual taxpayers and companies.

According to separate orders issued by the NBR, individuals now have until February 16 to submit their tax returns, extending the previous deadline of January 31. Companies have been given an extended deadline until March 16, instead of the earlier February 15-deadline.

This is the third time the NBR has extended the deadline for individual taxpayers.

Initially, the deadline was set for November 30, 2024, which is the usual cut-off for tax return submissions for the income year ending in June.

On November 17, 2024 the deadline was extended to December 31. It was later pushed to January 31, 2025 through another order issued on December 29, 2024.

The latest extension was announced just a day before the previous deadline for filing income and wealth statements by individual taxpayers was set to expire.

This year, the tax return filing process has seen several changes, with online submission made mandatory for certain categories.

On October 22, 2024, the NBR issued an order requiring government officials in Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Gazipur City Corporation areas, as well as employees of scheduled banks, mobile phone operators, and several multinational companies, to file their returns online.
