
Cultural activists are collecting donations for flood relief to rescue the stranded victims and deliver essential supplies to the flood-affected people of the country.
A team from the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies at Dhaka University is conducting operations to rescue stranded victims and delivering primary relief in Feni, said Md Ashiqur Rahman Leeon, an associate professor of the department.
Alumni and current students of the Faculty of Fine Art of Dhaka University are also running a donation collection campaign titled Response to Flood Victims at their Zainul Gallery.
Besides, they are also collecting food, salt, first aid supplies, water purification tablets, sanitary napkins, towels, and children鈥檚 necessities for the flood-affected people.
The platform collected Tk 5, 60,093 till Friday night, artist Jewel A Rob, one of the coordinators of the campaign, said, adding that they have urged artists to donate artworks which can be helpful to raise funds.
A fund raising initiative by writers and artists, meanwhile, collected Tk 10, 00, 946 till Friday night, according to a Facebook post by poet Sayed Jamil.
In the post, they said that they would collect funds till Monday and they run relief operations in flood affected areas.
Get Up Stand Up, a platform of musicians, also collected Tk 8, 02,708 till Friday, said AvoidRafa by a post on their Facebook page.
Bikhubdho Theatrekormigon, a platform of theatre activist collected Tk 62,000 till Saturday afternoon, said Kazi Roksana Ruma mentioning that theatre troupe BotTala will stage a play titled Bonnotherium on Friday at Mahila Samity Auditorium in the capital to raise funds.
On Saturday, theatre troupe Ethic staged their popular comedy Hari Fatibe at Mahila Samity Auditorium to raise funds for the flood-affected people.
Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi is also collecting donations by singing on the streets of the capital while all its district units are running activities to raise funds for the flood-affected people.
A concert titled Jaruri Sangjog organised by the Students Movement Against Discrimination was held at the Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture at Dhaka University on Friday which collected Tk 21, 41,200 and 20 trucks of food and clothes, confirmed their Facebook page.
Dhaka University Drama Troupe will stage its recent theatre production titled Dushasan at the Natmandal Auditorium of the university today to raise funds.
