The ruling Awami League said on Thursday that the proposed budget for the 2024–25 financial year was realistic and pro-people at the time of the current global crisis.

‘At the time of the current global crisis, a pro-people budget has been proposed,’ AL general secretary Obaidul Quader said at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Quader explained that the budget had been prepared keeping in mind the promises and priority sectors mentioned in the party’s election manifesto.

He said that a special focus would also be given to controlling commodity prices.

Replying to a query from journalists about whether any prescription of the International Monetary Fund was followed in the preparation of the budget, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said that the budget was not prepared following anyone’s prescription.

The Sheikh Hasina-led government does not follow anyone’s prescription, he said.

Finance minister Abul Hasan Mohammad Ali presented the budget proposal for the financial year 2024–25 at Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday.
