
Ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader said that AL-led alliance leaders, in a meeting at the Ganabhaban residence of prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday, decided to ban Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir from politics.
Quader said that the prime minister had instructed the home and law ministries to implement the decision.
The 14-party meeting unanimously decided to ban Jamaat and Shibir to eliminate anti-national evil forces in the national interest, he said.
Jamaat, which lost its registration with the Election Commission in 2009, is not eligible to participate in the elections.
Workers Party of Bangladesh president Rashed Khan Menon told 抖阴精品 after Monday鈥檚 meeting that they had reached a consensus about banning Jamaat-Shibir and requested the prime minister take steps to implement the decision.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-Jasod president Hasanul Haque Inu echoed the same words.
The alliance leaders wanted political steps to resolve the issues related to the ongoing student movement demanding quota reforms that turned violent, leaving over 200 killed and thousands injured.
Chaired by Sheikh Hasina, coordinator of the alliance Amir Hossain Amu, Tarikat Federation president Nazibul Bashar Maizbhandari and Jasod general secretary Shirin Akhter attended the meeting, among others.
