A Dhaka Court on Saturday placed former chief whip and six-time Awami League lawmaker ASM Feroz on seven-day remand in a murder case while police on the day arrested former Awami League lawmaker for Dhaka-13 Sadek Khan on Saturday in the capital鈥檚 Paschim Nakhalpara area.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Mohammad Jasim passed the order after police sought 10-day remand in a murder case filed with the Vatara police station.聽


A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on Saturday placed deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina鈥檚 private industry and investment adviser Salman F Rahman, former law minister Anisul Huq and former National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre director general Ziaul Ahsan again on five-day remand for killing an Ideal College student Khaled Saifullah in the capital鈥檚 Azimpur area.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Mohammad Jasim passed the order after Lalbagh police sought the remand, the court bench officer Gautam Chandra confirmed.

The same court also placed former education minister Dipu Moni on four-day remand in a murder case filed with the Badda police station.

Earlier, Salman and Anisul were placed on ten-day remand and Dipu Moni was placed on four-day remand in other cases.

Ziaul Ahsan was also remanded for eight days in custody previously.聽

Former Awami League lawmaker for Dhaka-13 Sadek Khan was arrested on Saturday in the capital鈥檚 Paschim Nakhalpara area.

Sadek, also former AL Dhaka north city unit general secretary, was arrested in a case filed with the Mohammadpur police station, Dhaka Metropolitan Police media cell confirmed the matter.

Mohammadpur police station inspector investigation Md Tofazzal Hossain said that Sadek Khan was arrested in a murder case filed on August 22.

DMP Tejgaon Division deputy commissioner Ruhul Kabir said that several cases were filed against Sadek Khan with the Mohammapur police station.

Besides, at least 56 cases were filed against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her aides after she had resigned and fled to India on August 5 amid a student-led mass uprising but no case was reported in the country till 9:45pm on Saturday.聽

Hasina was accused in 46 murder cases, seven cases of genocide and crimes against humanity, one case of shooting at students and mobs, one case of abduction, and one case of attacking the motorcade of Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia.

Several cases, however, were filed against AL leaders and activists in places, including Brahmanbaria, Rajshahi, Chattogram and Khulna.

In Brahmanbaria, police filed a case against 53 AL leaders and activists over clashes during the quota reform protest on August 4 at Brahmanbaria.

Sub-inspector of Brahmanbaria Sadar police station Md Jahangir Alam filed the case with the Sadar police station.

A murder case was filed against 26 people of the Bangladesh Awami League, including former lawmaker of Brahmanbaria-3 and former housing and public works minister RAM Obaidul Moktadir Chowdhury over killing of madrassah student Hossain Ahammed on March 27, 2021.

Tania Akter, sister of the deceased filed the case with the Brahmanbaria sadar police station on Friday stating that Hossain was killed during a protest against the visit of Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India, to Bangladesh on March 27 in 2021.

In Rajshahi, a case was filed on Saturday against 300 AL leaders and workers including former mayor of the Rajshahi City Corporation, AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, for their alleged involvement in killing of university student Sakib Anjum during the protest on August 5.

Father of the deceased Mainul Haque filed the case with the Boalia model police station in the city last night mentioning names of 42 AL leaders and workers, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.

United News of Bangladesh reported that a case was filed against 40,000 unidentified people for carrying out an attack on Kotwali Police Station, looting arms and torching a police station on August 5 in Chattogram.

Ripon Kumar Das, inspector for investigation of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police filed the case under the Special Powers Act and the Explosive Substances Act on Friday night, said SM Obaidul Haque, officer-in-charge of the Kotwali police station.

In Khulna, the police filed the cases last night on charge of vandalism, arson and looting of local Bangladesh Nationalist Party offices on August 27 in 2022.

BNP leader Kazi Md Ekram Mintu also filed a case against 105 named and 25 to 30 unnamed AL activists for arson attack and vandalism at the BNP office on October 22 in 2023.
