Three more murder cases have been filed against deposed prime minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina and her aides, taking the number of cases against her to 95 after her resignation and fleeing to India amid a mass uprising led by students on August 5.

Of them, two cases – one for the killing of Amir Hossain of West Rampura in Dhaka on July 19 and the other for the killing of Hafez Mawlana Sadikul of the city’s Uttara on the same day – were filed on Wednesday and the other case over the death of student Imran Hossain of Kutubkhali in Jatrabari in the capital on August 5 was filed on Sunday.


With the latest cases, the former PM was named in 79 murder cases.

Besides, she was named in eight cases on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity, one case for shooting at students and public, two cases for abduction, one case for arson attack, two cases for attempted murder, one case of attacking the motorcade of Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia, and one for arresting 17 BNP activists to foil the party’s rally in Chattogram.

The case over killing Amir Hossain of West Rampura on July 19 during the quota reform movement was filed against Hasina and 26 others.

The victim’s wife Anni filed the case with the Court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Afnan Sumi who ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation to investigate into the case.

Former AL general secretary Obaidul Quader, ex-home minister Asaduzzaman Khan and AL leaders Kamruzzaman Polash and ABM Siddique were among the accused in the case.

The case statement alleged that Amir Hossain was shot dead in front of Bangladesh Television Bhaban in the city’s Rampura area on July 19 as police and miscreants opened fire on the students and common people on orders from the accused persons.

The murder case over the death of Imran in Jatrabari area on August 5 was filed against Hasina, former law minister Shafique Ahmed, former attorney general AM Amin Uddin, Supreme Court lawyer Tania Amir and 293 others.

The victim’s mother Kohinur Akhter filed the case with Jatrabari Police Station on Sunday, a sub-inspector working at the court said on Wednesday.

AL general secretary Obaidul Quader, Workers Party of Bangladesh president Rashed Khan Menon, Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee president Shahriyar Kabir, Ekattor TV chief executive officer and editor Mozammel Haque Babu and senior journalist Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul were also named among the accused.

Koninur Akhter, in the case statement, alleged that her son Imran Hossain participated in the anti-quota protest on August 5 and was shot at about 9:00am when he was crossing Jatrabari Police Station.

Later, he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Bangladesh Sangbad Sanstha reported that the case over the killing of Hafez Mawlana Sadikul in the capital’s Uttara area on July 19 was filed against 56 people including Hasina.

Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun were among the accused people in the case.

The victim’s uncle Ashraf Siddiqui filed the complaint with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Fazana Shakila Sumu Chowdhury.

The court asked Uttara West Police Station to file the matter as the First Information Report.

According to the case statement, Hafez Mawlana Sadikul got severely injured at Uttara Sector 9 as police fired indiscriminately on protesters. He succumbed to his injuries the next day.
