
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party and the Islami Andolan Bangladesh on Monday reached a consensus on national elections in the shortest possible time after completing necessary minimum reforms and working together to rebuild the country and unite all forces against fascism.
Following a meeting between the two parties, held at the Islami Andolan Bangladesh office in the capital Dhaka, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters that they had reached a consensus on 10-point decisions.
The two parties agreed that they will work together towards building a Bangladesh free from external hegemony, expansionism and imperialism.
They also agreed that corrupt individuals, terrorists, murderers and money launderers should be brought to book swiftly with exemplary punishment, they should work together towards building national consensus to protect all human rights, including voting rights, and necessary reforms should be completed for fair and acceptable elections as soon as possible.
The parties also agreed on issues, including preventing the rise in commodity prices, ensuring the rights of the deprived, and normalising the law and order situation.
They pledged to unite all forces opposing Awami fascism in the country鈥檚 reconstruction, ensuring that anti-fascist forces do not turn against each other.
The meeting also agreed on forming political unity to prevent the rise of any future fascist forces like the Awami League.
They also agreed on taking no actions that go against Islamic Shariah and on refraining from making any statements against Islam.
The two parties called for a quick removal of existing Awami fascist allies within the administration.
Islami Andolan Bangladesh ameer Syed Md Rezaul Karim said that they discussed the national elections and other issues.
鈥榃e have used the word 鈥渜uick time鈥, and we have said that the reasonable timeframe for the elections is between one and one and a half years, not too much time. Already six months of the government has passed,鈥 he said.
