Different political parties and organisations on Friday continued to criticise the demolition of the house of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the capital’s Dhanmondi area.
Ganosamhati Andolan, a partner of Ganatantra Mancha, on Friday, criticised the attack and demolition of Sheikh Mujib's house on Road 32 at Dhanmondi.
The party chief coordinator Zonayed Saki and executive coordinator Abul Hassan Rubel in a joint statement said that the attack and demolition of the house were not acceptable though Sheikh Hasina’s online speech provoked the attack.
They called on the interim government to face the fascist Awami League politically and take initiatives for Sheikh Hasina’s extradition from India.    Â
Leaders of Left Democratic Alliance, a combine of six left political parties, in a press statement condemned demolition of the house where Sheikh Mujibur Rahman lived and was assassinated in 1975 along with the houses of Awami League leaders in different districts.
The alliance in its statement called on the interim government to take immediate steps to stop the attacks, warning that otherwise the government would not be able to avoid responsibilities of the attacks.
Transparency International Bangladesh on Friday expressed deep concern over the unusual vandalism and violence that took place in Dhanmondi and almost across the country over the past two days.
TIB also expressed its anger over the government’s indifference in preventing vandalism and violence.
The organisation stated that the government’s responsibilities was not limited to issuing statements only, but it must have actively controlled and prevented such situations.
TIB described the emerging scenario as a risk to democratic transition, good governance and state stability.
TIB executive director Iftekharuzzaman said that despite the advance announcement of the violent programme, the law enforcement agencies and the government had shown alarming indifference in taking effective preventive measures.
The attempt to evade responsibility by later stating that the incident was ‘unexpected and unintended’ was also noteworthy, he mentioned.
TIB also expressed its expectations that the state and government would take effective measures to protect the democratic rights of all, move away from the culture of harassing dissenters through legal cases, and ensure that all relevant stakeholders demonstrate tolerance.
The politburo of the Workers Party of Bangladesh also condemned the attack on the Dhanmondi house of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, saying that the house was a symbol of the initiation of the War of Independence in 1971.
The Workers Party politburo demanded an international probe of countrywide attacks occurred in February 5–6 centring the video speech by Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India and now staying there since August 5, addressing the student community.
Bangladesh Jasod president Sharif Nurul Ambia and general secretary Nazmul Haque Prodhan in a press statement said that the confrontational politics to resist the fascist Awami League was not acceptable.
They called on the government to resist fascism politically.
