Private university students who were included in the committee of newly formed Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad on Thursday morning suspended all demonstrations protesting at the committee formation and the scuffle during the launching ceremony.

‘There was a misunderstanding over the committee formation. We had discussions regarding the committee and decided to suspend the demonstrations,’ MJH Monju, convener of Student Against Discrimination’s Combined Private University unit, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.


He also said that they would clarify the matter in a press conference along with BGCS leaders at Madhu’s Canteen on Dhaka University campus on Thursday afternoon.

Meanwhile, a group of students of Government Titumir College on Thursday morning held a rally on their campus condemning the conflict that left several private university students, including female students injured. 

On Wednesday night, a group of private university students on blocked Banglamotor in front of SAD office and announced human chain programme in the private university campuses on Thursday and road blockade on Friday protesting at the committee formation and the scuffle.

A group of leaders of the Student Against Discrimination that led the July-August mass uprising on Wednesday afternoon launched a new student organisation, Bangladesh Gonotantraik Chhatra Sangsad, amid protests and scuffles at the launching venue in Dhaka.

The scuffles occurred during the announcement of the new organisation at Madhu’s Canteen on Dhaka University campus.

Private university students said that were ignored in the committee of the new organisation.

Abu Baker Majumder was made the convener and Zahid Ahsan was made the member secretary of the six-member central convening committee of the BGCS.

Only one female member was included in the committee.

Of the six-member committee, five are from Dhaka University and one is from Jahangirnagar University.

Besides the central committee, a six-member Dhaka University committee was also announced in the event.

Besides Abu Baker Majumder and Zahid Ahsan, four other members of the central convening committee are Touhid Mohammad Siam (senior joint convener), Rifat Rashid (senior joint member secretary), Tahmid Al Muddassir Chowdhury (principal organiser) and Ashrefah Khatun (spokesperson).
