The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Friday said that the meeting between chief adviser Muhammad Yunus and Indian prime minister Narendra Modi had created a chance to improve India-Bangladesh relations and to reduce the existing bitterness.
Talking to reporters at the party chairperson’s office in the capital’s Gulshan area, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir described the meeting between the leaders of Bangladesh and India as a ‘light of hope’ for both countries.
The chief adviser to Bangladesh’s interim government, Muhammad Yunus,  and Indian prime minister Narendra Modi held their first bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok Friday afternoon.
‘Given the current geopolitical situation and regional context, we believe that the meeting between our chief adviser and Indian prime minister has created a light of hope for us,’ Fakhrul said.
‘From what I have seen, I feel that both are quite sincere in this matter, and it will undoubtedly benefit the people of Bangladesh and India — the people of both countries,’ the BNP leader said.
