Mohammad Hatem, managing director of MB Knit Fashion Ltd, has been appointed as president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association following the resignation of Salim Osman from the position.

The decision was made at a meeting of the BKMEA executive board, held at its office in Dhaka on Sunday.


The board also elected Fazlee Shamim Ehsan as executive president and Md Shamsuzzaman as vice-president.

Hatem was serving the trade body鈥檚 board as executive president while Shamim held the position of senior vice-president.

A BKMEA press release said that Salim Osman had recently resigned as president of the trade body, citing physical illness.

Salim Osman had held the position of BKMEA president for the past 14 years since 2010.

Selim, who was also a member of parliament for Narayanganj-5, resigned from the trade body following the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina government amid a student-led mass uprising on August 5.

On Saturday, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association board made Khandoker Rafiqul Islam its president following the resignation of SM Mannan Kochi from the position.

On August 11, the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association made

Amber Group chairman Shawkat Aziz Russell its president, replacing Mohammad Ali Khokon, who resigned due to personal reasons.
