Bangladesh Bank governor Ahsan H Mansur said that Islami Bank was established as an international bank where many foreign investors invested and the bank secured the top position in collecting foreign remittance.

He made the remark at the inauguration of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC’s 400th branch in Ghatail of Tangail on Saturday, according to a press release.


He said that one fourth population of the country was closely connected with Islami Bank. Islami Bank has moved forward remarkably from the scenario of five months back. The bank gained seven thousand crore taka fresh deposit and secured the top position in collecting foreign remittance, he added.

The central bank governor said that the confusion created over the bank sector has been disappearing gradually. ‘We have been working to pull out the banking sector from the previous devastating situation,’ he added.

Obayed Ullah Al Masud, chairman of Islami Bank Bangladesh said, countrywide strong network of IBBPLC is the symbol of its popularity.

He also said, ‘Islami Bank has been working for development of rural economy through its Rural Development Scheme across 34 thousand villages of the country. We want to extend this service to 68 thousand villages across the country.’

IBBL executive committee chairman Md Abdul Jalil, risk management committee chairman professor M Masud Rahman and other senior officials were present.
