Bangladesh Maritime University held an international seminar titled Blue Economy: Unlocking the Potential of Oceans for Sustainable Development of Bangladesh at the Senaprangan, Dhaka Cantonment on Monday.

Education adviser Professor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar graced the occasion as chief guest in the closing ceremony of the seminar while chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan was present as chief guest in the inaugural ceremony of the day-long seminar, said a press release.


The seminar was presided over by BMU vice-chancellor rear admiral Ashraful Hoq Chowdhury.

The keynote paper of the seminar was presented by Pierre Failer, professor at the University of Portsmouth in the United Kingdom, and chair of Ocean Governance at UNESCO.

Professor Teng Zin of the National Ocean Technology Centre of China, Professor Natrah FB Mohd Ikhsan, head of the aquaculture department of University

Putra Malaysia and Tonia Astrid Capuano, oceanography expert of the French government agency of expertise presented their papers on different topics at the seminar.

The seminar consisted of three parallel technical sessions.
