
Bangladeshi educationist and IT researcher, Professor M Lutfar Rahman, has been appointed as the honorary adviser for South and Southeast Asia to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), says a press release.
Professor Rahman is currently serving as the vice-chancellor of Daffodil International University and a part-time member of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council.
He was the founding vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur and is acclaimed for his extensive research in the fields of digital systems, microprocessor applications, data communications, computer networks, information security and cryptography.
COMSTECH, a specialised committee of the OIC, is tasked with strengthening cooperation among member countries in the areas of science, technology, higher education and health.
It aims to enhance institutional capacities through strategic programs, training initiatives, and the implementation of OIC resolutions that drive scientific and technological progress.
Professor Rahman began his career as a scientific officer in Pakistan (now Bangladesh) Atomic Energy Commission and later worked as a lecturer at the Higher Institute of Electronics in Libya.
He joined Dhaka University in the applied physics department, electronics and communication engineering in 1984.
In 1992, he became the founding chairman of the department of computer science (now computer science and engineering), and was appointed professor in 1994.
He also served as director of the university’s Computer Centre (now Institute of Information Technology) from 1994 to 1998.
Professor Rahman has authored over 200 research papers and numerous scientific and technical articles. He has also written or edited eighteen books in the fields of electronics, computer science, and communication—many of which are widely used as university textbooks.
