
The authorities of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Monday said that 30-month-old conjoined twins Sumaiya and Khadija, who were admitted at BSMMU, would be separated soon.
The university’s paediatrics department chairman professor Dr AKMM Zahid Hossain said that at least three complex surgeries would be required to separate the twins, said a press release.
On the day, BSMMU vice-chancellor professor Dr Deen Md Nurul Haque visited the registrar’s office, proctor’s office, examination controller’s office, operation theatres of cabin block, ICU and second floor of cabin block of the university.
During his visit, VC Nurul Haque emphasised on maintaining a clean environment and ordered to remove unnecessary and unused items quickly. He also inquired about the medical care in ICU, operation theatre, cabin block and suggested to improve the medical services.
Later, he inquired about the treatment of Sumaiya and Khadija, who were joined from the waist to lower part of the body and undergoing treatment on the second floor of the cabin block.
Dean of BSMMU Dr Debbrata Banik, registrar prof Dr ABM Abdul Hannan, proctor prof Dr Md Habibur Rahman Dulal, prof of anaesthesia, analgesia and intensive care medicine department Dr Debashish Banik, chairman of paediatric department prof Dr AKMM Zahid Hossain, chairman of oncology department prof Dr Nazir Uddin Mollah, director (hospital) brigadier general Dr Md Rezaur Rahman, assistant proctor associate professor Dr Md Ariful Islam Zowardar Tito, anaesthesiologist Dr Md Ashrafuzzaman Sajeeb and others were present.
