
The prices of essential kitchen items, including rice, soya bean oil and chicken, remained high in the capital Dhaka over the week ending Friday, causing concerns for consumers.
Different qualities of rice were available on the market at prices ranging from Tk 55-100 a kilogram.
The fine varieties of Miniket rice were sold for Tk 80-82 a kilogram throughout the week, maintaining a steady high price.
Packaged soya bean oil was priced at Tk 175-177 a litre on Friday. Five-litre bottles of the item were sold for Tk 850-852 on the city鈥檚 kitchen markets.
Chicken prices also remained high during the week. Broiler chicken sold for Tk 190-220 a kilogram, while the Sonalika variety of chicken was priced at Tk 340-350 a kilogram.
Most vegetable prices remained stable over the week.
Aubergine sold for Tk 40-60 a kilogram, bitter gourd for Tk 80-90 a kilogram and beans for Tk 30-40 a kilogram. Cabbage and cauliflower prices ranged between Tk 20-30 apiece, while radish was available at Tk 20 a kilogram. Tomatoes sold for Tk 40-50 a kilogram on Friday.
The prices of green chillies and potatoes also showed stability throughout the week. Green chillies were priced at Tk 70-80 a kilogram, while potatoes were sold for Tk 30-40 a kilogram on the city鈥檚 kitchen markets.
The price of onions, however, saw a slight increase. The local variety was sold for Tk 55-60 a kilogram, while the imported variety was priced between Tk 55 and Tk 70 a kilogram on Friday.
The price of eggs remained unchanged during the week, selling for Tk 45-48 a hali (four pieces) across city markets.
Prices of red lentil also stayed high. Its coarse variety was priced at Tk 105-110 a kilogram, while the medium-quality variety sold for Tk 115-120 a kilogram. The fine variety of red lentil maintained its higher price, selling for Tk 135-140 a kilogram on聽Friday.
