The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh has verified, printed and delivered 57 lakh smart family cards to local administration offices for nationwide distribution.

Another 6 lakh cards are ready for printing and will be delivered later this month. The government is distributing these cards free of charge.

During the Awami League鈥檚 tenure, the TCB issued one crore family cards across the country.

However, after the interim government took office in August last year, TCB officials discovered that some individuals had acquired multiple TCB cards using a single NID.

They also found cases where multiple members of the same family were receiving goods.

In November last year, TCB鈥檚 joint director and spokesperson Md Humayun Kabir stated that 57 lakh cards had been updated, while 43 lakh were still unverified by local administrations.

He emphasised the need for updated information to prevent duplication among family card beneficiaries.

TCB sells edible oil, lentils and sugar year-round through trucks.

Kabir also mentioned that chickpeas and dates would be available in Dhaka during Ramadan, while outside the capital, chickpeas would be added to the list of commodities.

Smart family cardholders can purchase 2 litres of edible oil for Tk 200, 2 kilogram of lentils for Tk 120, and 1 kilogram of sugar for Tk 70.
