
The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh started selling essentials on open markets in the city and all eight districts under Rajshahi division on Tuesday.
The state-owned trading organisation started the selling at ten important points in Rajshahi city using ten trucks for keeping the prices stable ahead of the upcoming holy Ramadan.
Eighty-one dealers in Rajshahi city and 371 others in Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Natore and Pabna districts have started selling the items among people.
Many people were seen purchasing goods from the trucks standing in line.
The dealers were selling sugar at Tk 70 a kilogram, edible oil at Tk 100 per litre, lentil at Tk 60 a kilogram and half a kilogram of dates at Tk 145.
In the city, 2,000 families can purchase their essentials every day. Each of the cardholders can purchase 1 kilogram of sugar, 2 kilogram of lentils, 2 litres of edible oil, 2 kilogram of chickpea and half a kilogram of dates per day.
Talking to BSS, Monwar Hossain, who came to buy TCB goods at Railway Gate area, mentioned that the government initiative was good.
Rahima Begum of Rani Bazar area said that with satisfaction that the initiatives would benefit many distressed and underprivileged families.
Talking to BSS, TCB regional officer Atikur Rahman said, 鈥榃e have started selling different types goods, including lentils, edible oil and sugar, at fixed prices through the appointed dealers.鈥
The City Corporation and respective district administration will continue regular monitoring to prevent irregularities and mismanagement in selling products. Upazila administration will closely monitor the initiatives at upazila level.
