A former union parishad member was injured in firing by Indian Border Security Force along Lalmonirhat border near Aditmari upazila Tuesday night.

The injured, Saiful Islam Nannu, 50, of Dulali village under Aditmari upazila, is a former member of Velabari Union Parishad of the upazila.


Locals said that, after bringing cattle from India in the evening, Saiful Islam Nannu along with several other cattle traders were staying near the fence of Pillar No. 21 in the bordering Maldia area.

At that time, BSF personnel opened fire targeting the cattle traders that left Saiful Islam Nannu shot and injured.

Border Guard Bangladesh members, receiving the news, rushed the spot, rescued him and admitted him to Aditmari Upazila Health Complex in a serious condition.

Dr Bikram Chandra, a physician at the emergency department of Aditmari Upazila Health Complex, said that injured Saiful Islam Nannu was shot in the back and was referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital after giving primary treatment.

Major Mofazzal Hossain, commander of the 15th Battalion of BGB in Lalmonirhat, said that he heard that one person was injured in BSF firing along the border.
