Another burn victim in gas cylinder explosion that occurred on April 12 in Bangladesh capital Dhaka’s Bhashantek area, died on Friday, taking the death toll to four.
The resident surgeon of the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute Tariqul Islam said that 7-year-old Lamia, suffering from 55 per cent burn, died at 6:40am.
‘The remaining two victims, 9-year-old Sujon, who suffered 43 per cent burns, and his 18-year-old sister Liza, who suffered 30 per cent burns, are still in critical condition,’ he added.
Earlier, their father Md Liton, suffering from 67 per cent burns, and mother Surjo Banu, who suffered 82 per cent burns, and grandmother Meherunnesa, suffering 47 per cent burns, died while undergoing treatment at the institute.
On April 12, the incident took place at about 4:15am at a house in Bhashantek’s Shyamalpalli residential area, leaving six members of the family seriously injured.
‘The explosion occurred after one of the family members lit a match to ignite a mosquito coil. We assume that gas had accumulated in the house due to leakage from the LPG gas cylinder, which may have come in contact with the fire, causing the explosion,’ Bhashantek police station duty officer Md Borhan Uddin told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· after the incident.
