A Pabna court on Friday sent 12 truck drivers and their 11 assistants to jail after police arrested them in connection with carrying 242 tonnes of Indian sugar in 12 trucks.

Senior Judicial magistrate Hasan Al Azad passed the order.


Earlier on Thursday morning, Detective Branch of Pabna Police seized 12 trucks loaded with 242 tonnes of Indian sugar at Kazirhat Ferry Ghat under Aminpur police station in Bera upazila of Pabna and arrested 23 people.

DB police sub-inspector Deno Roy filed a case with Aminpur police station in this connection as plaintiff.

‘We have detained 12 drivers and 11 helpers of 12 trucks. One helper, however, managed to flee from the scene,’ said DB police officer-in-charge Imran Mahmud Tuhin.

Confirming the matter, Pabna district police superintendent Akbar Ali Munshi told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the police arrested the drivers and their assistants as they failed to show valid documents for carrying the goods.
