The education ministry on Monday removed Md Ali Akbar Khan from the post of chairman of the Bangladesh Technical Education Board after the arrest of his wife for her involvement with a crime ring that sold fake certificates.

The Technical and Madrassah Education Division issued a notification in this regard, and it also attached Ali Akbar to the Directorate of Technical Education.


Besides, the technical education board鈥檚 director, Mamun ul Haque, was given the additional charge of chairman in a separate order of the ministry.

Meanwhile, the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police summoned Ali Akbar to appear at its office on Tuesday to quiz him about the creation of fake certificates and number sheets.

The Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday formed a probe committee led by a director to scrutinise the allegations that two ACC officials cleared ATM Shamsuzzaman, a system analyst on the technical education board, in a graft case by taking money.

ACC secretary Khorsheda Yasmeen, at a press briefing at the commission headquarters in Dhaka on Monday, also said they had appointed an investigation officer to re-investigate the case filed against Shamsuzzaman.聽

Shehela Parveen, wife of Ali Akbar Khan, was arrested on Saturday night, and she was also placed on remand for interrogation.

DB officials said that BTEB system analyst AKM Shamsuzzaman, the main accused in the case filed for selling fake certificates, and co-accused Gorai Survey Institute director Sanjida Akhter Koli gave confessional statements.

Sanjida Akter, alias Koli; Hilful Fujul Technical Institute principal Sarder Golam Mostofa, alias Mustafizur Raman; and Dhaka Polytechnic School and College director Maksudur Rahman were also arrested on the same allegations.

Earlier on April 1, the DB of police arrested Shamsuzzaman and his associate Faisal Hossain in a drive in the capital鈥檚 Pirerbagh for their alleged involvement in selling forged certificates.

The DB arrested Sanjida Akter from Kushtia district, Mustafizur Rahman was arrested at Mirpur, and Maksudur Rahman was arrested at Jatrabari.

聽The accused were arrested in a case filed with the Mirpur police station on April 1 under the Cybersecurity Act.
