Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Atiqul Islam on Monday said that they would take legal actions, including jail sentence and fine, if Aedes mosquito larvae were found in any house or office in the DNCC area after April 27.
He came up with the announcement while inaugurating a month-long mosquito-containing awareness programme in 54 wards in the capital’s Rupnagar area, said a DNCC press release.Â
‘We have started month-long awareness campaigns in all wards to contain dengue. We are making people aware. But imprisonment and realising fines will be imposed, if we find mosquito larvae in house and offices after April 27,’ said Atiqul.
The government and city corporation offices even would not be spared, if mosquito larvae were found, the mayor warned.
‘If larvae are found in any offices of the city corporation, actions will be taken against the responsible official. My message is clear. Cases will be filed and imprisonment will be given if larvae are found,’ he added.
Atiqul said that they had already informed ministry of local government, rural development and co-operatives to provide more executive magistrates.
Dhaka-14 constituency lawmaker Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil said that they were working with the members of House Owners Samity, alongside the city corporation, for raising awareness.
Jahangirnagar University zoology professor and vector management expert Kabirul Bashar, among others, were present at the programme.
