Mohammed Atiqur Rahman

Professor Mohammed Atiqur Rahman has been appointed as pro-vice-chancellor (academic) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin, also the chancellor of the university, appointed him for the next 4 years, said a press release issued by BSMMU on Tuesday.


Earlier, he successfully served as the treasurer of the university for two terms. He also served as dean of the faculty of medical technology and chairman of the department of chest diseases (respiratory medicine) of BSMMU.

Born on May 15, 1969, in Sylhet, prof Atiqur passed MBBS from Dhaka Medical College in 1994. He received MD in respiratory medicine from Dhaka University in 2002 and FCCP degree from American College of Chest Physicians in 2014.

His wife Kazi Rahila Ferdowsi is an eminent cardiologist.

A total of 47 scientific publications and several important articles of prof Atiqur had published in various journals at the national and international levels.

Meanwhile, prof Atiqur paid tribute to Sheikh Mujib鈥檚 mural in the B block of the university and portrait at Dhanmondi after taking the charge as pro-VC on Tuesday. BSMMU VC prof Deen Md Nurul Haque, pro-VC (administration) prof Saif Uddin Ahmed, pro-VC (research and development) prof Md Moniruzzaman Khan, dean of dental faculty Mohammad Ali Asgar Moral, registrar prof ABM Abdul Hannan, proctor prof Md Habibur Rahman Dulal, among others, were present.
