
Gono Bishwabidyalay trustee board president emeritus professor Serajul Islam Choudhury said that Zafrullah Chowdhury as a doctor could have engaged himself in the physical treatment of people but he also worked to change the society.
He came up with the statement at a commemoration, organised on Gono Bishwabidyalay campus in Savar on Tuesday, on the occasion of Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder and the dreamer of Gono Bishwabidyalay Zafrullah Chowdhury’s first death anniversary, said a press release.
Prof Serajul Islam also said that Zafrullah Chowdhury dreamt for society, not for personal acquaintance or gain. All the institutions, he built in his life, were socially owned. He wanted to change the society and to ensure equal rights and opportunities for all citizens in the state.
Speakers said that Zafrullah was a man of alternative thought. He worked a lot for a good society. He also worked for the liberation of women.
Gono Bishwabidyalay trustee member former justice Mohammad Abdur Rauf, professor Dilara Chowdhury, Farida Akhtar and professor Asif Nazrul spoke among others.
Vice-chancellor of Gono Bishwabidyalay prof Md Abul Hossain presided over the programme where Zafrullah Chowdhury’s wife and trustee of the university Shirin Haque and other trustees were present. Treasurer, registrar, teachers and students of Gono Bishwabidyalay also attended the event.
