International Noise Awareness Day 2024 was observed in the country and the globe on Wednesday with a call to forge social resistance to fight against noise pollution to save people from being infected with various physical and mental disorders.

The Department of Environment and the Rajshahi divisional and district administrations jointly organised the meeting held at the office conference hall of the Divisional Commissioner to mark International Sound Awareness Day 2024.


The main theme of the day this year is ‘understand the dangers of loud music, sounds and hearing loss’.

Associate Professor Subrata Ghosh from the Department of Ear Nose and Throat of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital illustrated the demerits of noise pollution during his keynote presentation.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir addressed the discussion as chief guest, while DoE divisional director Ahsan Habib was in the chair.

Additional commissioners Imtiaz Hossain and Tarafder Akhter Jamil, director of Local Government Division Parvez Raihan, civil surgeon Abu Syeed Muhammad Faruque, additional commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Hemayetul Islam and editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat also spoke disseminating their expertise on the issue.

Marking the day, the Natore district administration and the environment department chalked elaborate programmes under the ‘Integrated and Partnership Project on Noise Pollution Control’ of the Environment Department.

On the occasion, a rally was brought out from the premises of the Collectorate Building and ended at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office after parading the main roads of the district town on Wednesday morning.

Later, a discussion was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office this morning with deputy commissioner Abu Naser Bhuiyan in the chair.

Md. Rafiqul Islam, assistant director, Natore district office, Department of Environment delivered the welcome speech.

Additional district magistrate Md Arif Hossain, inspector of police Farhad Hossain, and educationist Principal Abdur Razzak, among others, spoke.

Speakers said that noise pollution can cause hearing loss, partial or total deafness, heart disease, high blood pressure, insomnia and mental disorders.

In Gaibandha, the Department of Environment, Rangpur divisional office arranged a discussion in cooperation with district administration at the conference room of the deputy commissioner.

Additional district magistrate Md Mashiur Rahman addressed the function as the chief guest while additional superintendent of police Abdullah AL-Mamun spoke at the event as special guest.

Md Hasan-e-Mubarak, senior chemist of the DoE, moderated the ceremony.

Netrakona district administration and the Department of Environment jointly organised a meeting at the conference room of the deputy commissioner marking the International Sound Awareness Day- 2024.

The main theme of the day this year is ‘Understand the dangers of loud music, sounds and hearing loss’.

Deputy commissioner Netrakona Shahed Parvez addressed the meeting as chief guest while deputy director of the Local Government Division Mohammad  Mamun Khandaker was in the chair.

The meeting was addressed, among others, by Mayor of Netrakona Municipality Nazrul Islam Khan, additional police super Shibly Sadik, former commander of district Muktizoddha Sangsad Nurul Amin and traffic inspector Jahirul Islam.

Assistant director of the Department of Environment, Netrakona Abu Sayeed delivered the welcome speech at the meeting.  

Earlier, a rally was brought out in the district town from Netrakona DC office premises under the auspices of district administration and the Department of Environment to mark the day.

Marking the day, Shariatpur district administration and the Environment Department chalked elaborate programmes in the district.

On the occasion of the day, a rally was brought out from in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office and ended coming at the same place after parading the main roads of the district town this morning.

Later, a discussion on the importance of the day was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner’s office this morning with additional district magistrate Mosammad Tashlima Akhtar in the chair.

Executive magistrate Md Abdullah Al Mamun moderated the discussion and Md Russell Noman, assistant director of Shariatpur Environment Department, gave a welcome speech.

Sadar upazila nirbahi officer Md Mainuddin, district animal resources officer Md Abu Bakar Siddique, district information officer Shahin Mia, representatives of various government departments, representatives of non-government organizations and journalists, among others, were present.
