School teachers under the Monthly Pay Order system on Saturday demanded the withdrawal of the permanent suspension order against one of their leaders on graft charges.
At a press conference, the teachers under the banner of Bangladesh Teachers’ Association alleged that their leader Mohammad Kawser Ali Sheikh had been suspended recently, following conspiracy by the people, who opposed their movement.
Kawser was the principal of Sabuj Bidyapith High School at Jatrabari in Dhaka and the association general secretary.
The press conference was held at the Dhaka Reporter’s Unity in the capital, said a press release issued by the association.
The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka, on April 21, gave approval to the decision of the school managing committee to permanently suspended Kawser for 10 allegations against him, including embezzlement of school’s funds, failure to provide information in audit, illegal appointment and participating in business and teacher’s politics.
While reading a written statement on Saturday at the programme, the association president Md Bazlur Rahman Mia alleged that the people, including the school managing committee, who opposed the last year’s movement, were conspiring against Kawser.
The teachers also alleged that Kawser had been suspended as earlier he had obstructed the illegal activities of the school managing committee.
The board was also blamed not to evaluate the allegations against the teacher impartially, they said and demanded the immediate withdrawal of the suspension of Kawser.
The secondary-level teachers under the association staged a sit-in protest in front of the National Press Club for 22 consecutive days between July 11 and August 1 and went for a countrywide strike for 17 consecutive days between July 16 and August 1, demanding nationalisation of their jobs.
