A team of Bangladesh Navy recovered a torpedo floating in the canal from the sea at the Rangabali coast in Patuakhali on Monday afernoon.聽

The members from the BNS Sher-e-Bangla Base in the district recovered the torpedo from the Bhangar canal of Meerkanda village under Moudubi union of the upazila.


Currently, it is being moved to the BNS Sher-e-Bangla base, police officials said.

Rangabali police station officer-in-charge Helal Uddin confirmed the matter and added that no one could confirm from which country it was thrown.

On Monday afternoon, about 27-feet-long and 3-feet-wide tube-shaped object floated to the canal of the Ranglabali coast.

The Navy and the Coast Guard started their operation to rescue and identify the object in the afternoon after it surfaced.

Rangabali police station OC Helal Uddin said that it was identified as a torpedo and was being taken to the Sher-e-Bangla naval base.

It will be tested by the Bangladesh Navy, he added.

A torpedo is a type of self-propelled weapon used by naval forces. It carries explosive warheads under or above the water and can detonate after approaching or hitting to a target.
