Two children drowned in the River Mahananda in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district while taking a bath on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Shakil Ahmed, nine, son of Rasel Ali and Maria Khatun, nine, daughter of Alamgir Hossain from Pirgachi village of Dhainagar union under Shibganj upazila. Both of them were students of class three at Nakkatitala Government Primary School.
Quoting family members, Sazzad Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shibganj police station, said that the two children, along with others, went to the river near the Nakkatitala Bazar area at noon to take a bath.
The children drowned while taking a bath and their bodies were recovered by locals from the river, said Sazzad, who added that their bodies were handed over to their families as per legal procedures.
