Jatiya Sangsad speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has nominated five lawmakers as senate members of Jahangirnagar University.
The five lawmakers are Abu Sayeed Al Mahmood Swapon (Joypurhat-2), Nazrul Islam Babu (Narayanganj-2), Begum Sagufta Yasmin (Munshiganj-2), Golam Faruk Khandakar Prince (Pabna-5) and AKM Enamul Haque Shamim (Shariatpur-2).
Among the five, Begum Sagufta Yasmin served the university鈥檚 senate as a member of the recent past body.
Through a parliamentary notification signed by deputy secretary Md Mahmud Jamil, the speaker of Jatiya Sangsad nominated the five Awami League lawmakers as senate members of the university, as per the section 19 (1) (D) of the Jahangirnagar University Act-1973.
According to the section 19 (1) (D) of the Jahangirnagar University Act-1973, the university senate shall consist of five Members of Parliament to be nominated by the speaker.
鈥楾he members of the senate under this category shall hold office for a period of three years鈥�, the section stated.
鈥楾he Members of Parliament shall hold office so long as they continue to be a Member of Parliament鈥�, the university act read.
