The proceedings of the Supreme Court remained suspended on Sunday to show respect to former聽 attorney general and senior lawyer Abdul Jamil Mohammad Ali, popularly known as AJ Mohammad Ali, who died at a Singapore hospital on May 2.

The chief justice, Obaidul Hassan, announced the traditional vacation after suspending its proceedings from 10:00am to mourn the death of the senior lawyer.


The chief justice also ordered closure of the High Court proceedings from 11:00am on Sunday.

Mohammad Ali, 73, was also an adviser of main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia.

He had been suffering from postulated cancer, and liver and kidney problems and left the country on April 28 for Singapore.
