Students from various educational institutions on Thursday held a solidarity rally displaying a human flag in solidarity with demands for an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and an independent state for Palestinian people.

The rally was organised by the March for Palestine organisation in front of the Raju Memorial sculpture at Teacher-Student Centre of Dhaka University.

The students also protested at the genocide in Gaza and demanded a ceasefire in Gaza.

They said that Palestine’s right to independence must be recognised.

They demanded stopping genocide in Gaza immediately as well as repression of students around the world, including in the United States, for protesting against the genocide.

They also demanded that the US and other countries should recognise Palestine as an independent state, lifting the blockade on Gaza and providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza.

Professor Asif Nazrul of Dhaka University said, ‘We all need to come together and raise our voices against the genocide in Palestine’.

If there is a national unity, Bangladesh can play a much more significant role on the Palestine issue, he said, hoping that young people will be able to build such a Bangladesh soon.

Author and researcher Rakhal Raha said, ‘Israel has gradually grabbing Palestinian land, causing their suffering and leading to the desire for national eradication. The oppression upon Palestine, and the ongoing ethnic cleansing, must be stopped immediately.’

Akhter Hossen, former social service secretary of Dhaka University Central Student Union, Arif Sohel, a student of Jahangirnagar University, Nahid Islam, a student of social science department of the DU, and others spoke at the solidarity rally.
