The widow of Language Movement hero Abdul Matin, Gulbadan Nessa Monika, has sought financial support from prime minister Sheikh Hasina for her treatment.

She is now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Community Medical College and Hospital.

‘She is suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and kidney disease and undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of the hospital,’ said professor Md Harun-ur-Rashid on Sunday.

Maliha Suvan, her daughter, said that Gulbadan Nessa had been suffering from various health complications for several years, adding, ‘Due to deterioration of her health condition, she fell unconscious on Wednesday.’

Mentioning that despite their financial crisis, they have been continuing her treatment. Maliha said, ‘As her treatment has become much more expensive, it has become very difficult for us to bear the expense.’

Abdul Matin’s both daughters urged the prime minister to make necessary arrangements for their mother’s medical assistance.

‘Our mother participated in the War of Independence. In her life, she was involved in various social activities. We seek the honourable prime minister’s support for our mother’s medical assistance,’ they urged.
