The results dissemination and policy co-creation workshop on ‘Enhancing Food Safety in Fish and Chicken Value Chains of Bangladesh’ was held on Monday at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council in Dhaka.

In the inaugural session, professor Shamsul Alam, former state minister for planning, was present as chief guest. Professor Emdadul Haque Chowdhury, vice-chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University was chief patron in the workshop, said a press release.


Shaikh Mohammad Bokhtiar, executive chairman of BARC and Md Zulfikar Ali, director general of Bangladesh Fishery Research Institute, were special guests and former director general of BFRI M Gulam Hussain was present as the key discussant in the workshop. Professor KM Mostafizur Rahman, dean, faculty of agricultural economics and rural sociology, and chairman of the Bureau of Socioeconomic Research and Training, BAU, was presided over the inaugural session.

In the workshop, US PI and professor of Texas State University Madan M Dey and professor Md Saidur Rahman, host country Pl of the project were presented as keynote speakers.

The project was funded by the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Safety, as part of Feed the Future, the US government’s global hunger and food security initiative, led by USAID and implemented by the host country, Bangladesh, Pl and US PI from Texas State University. This results-sharing workshop, organised by the institutions were – BAU, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh Food Safety Authority and Texas State University, USA.

In the second policy session, professor Md Kawser Ahmed, member (secretary), general economics division, planning commission, was chief guest and emeritus professor MA Sattar Mandal, former BAU VC was present as guest of honour. Zakaria, BFSA, Dhaka, Syed Md Alamgir, director general, department of fisheries, and Benoy Kumar Barman, interim country representative, WorldFish Bangladesh, were present as special guests. Professor Md Saidur Rahman, host country Pl of the project, chaired the session. Co PI and DU associate professor Samina Lutfa and professor Hasneen Jahan of BAU delivered vote of thanks.
