The Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s detective branch on Saturday said that they arrested two people, including a Vietnamese national, for selling illegal herbal products via fake Facebook accounts in the name of health minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen.

The arrested were identified as Vietnamese national Tran-Anh-Tho alias Tony and Nurul Amin alias Yamin.

They were arrested during a raid by DB Cyber Crime Division (South) in the capital’s Gulshan area on Friday night.

DB chief Harun-or-Rashid informed a press conference about the arrests at its office in the capital’s Minto Road on Saturday.

He said that they started an inquiry into the fake Facebook accounts after health minister’s personal assistant filed a case with the Shahbagh police.

The fake IDs posted various flashy advertisements of hair tonics and hair treatments using the name and picture of the health minister, he said.

‘They have been selling low-quality imported products that are not scientifically proven,’ said Harun.

He also said that Tony and Yamin were the main agents of the fraud ring led by a man named Dong from Vietnam.

DMP additional commissioner said that these low-quality products were brought from Vietnam and China.

‘There is no legality in marketing these products in Bangladesh. People should be careful while buying these products by only looking at the advertisements,’ added the DB chief.
