The High Court on Sunday directed the deputy commissioners of Narayanganj and Gazipur, and the superintendents of police of the two districts to demolish in two months billboards of illegal housing projects near Rajuk-run Purbachal City at Rupganj, on the outskirts of the capital.
The bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil issued the directive after hearing a petition filed by the Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh organisation seeking a directive to demolish the billboards of 38-housing projects at different places in Rupganj and Kaliganj.
HRPB lawyer Manzill Murshid told the High Court that the illegal housing projects resumed their business activities flouting a High Court order issued in 2022 banning their activities. The High Court issued the ban after hearing a writ petition filed by HRPB.
The latest HRPB petition sought contempt of the court ruling against the DCs and SPs for not implementing the High Court鈥檚 directive issued two years ago.
Manzill Murshid told the court that he took pictures of 38 signboards of illegal housing projects during his recent visit to the Purbachal City.
He said that Rajuk developed a Purbachal Town Project and allocated plots to various professionals and individuals.
Later, Manzill said that some illegal housing projects started illegal activities by filling earth in the adjacent low-laying areas.
The unauthorised housing projects include Platinum Purbachal City, City Cloud, Canada City, Zamindar City, City Rimjhim, Dreamland City, Homeland Purbachal City, Hometown Purbachal City, Priti Real Estate, Muscat City, Puspita Housing, Nandan City, Best Webcity, Malum City, Marine City, Swapan City, United Purbachal Land Limited, AG Properties Limited, Navana Real Estate, Bishwas Builders, Nilachal Housing, Bagan Bilash, Rupayan Land, Adarsha Ideal聽 Limited, Tepantar Housing Limited, Metropolitan Christian Cooperative housing, Graph International, North South Housing, Manzil Housing and development, Shikder Royal City, Kapotakkha Green City, Devine Folding, Shatabdi housing Limited, Swarno Chaya Real Estate, Vision 21 Design, Ocean Haven Limited, Chandrima Limited and Fair Deal Shop Limited.
