Youths, at a seminar on Monday, underscored the importance of creating more skilled workforce to address the unemployment problem.

Around 25 youths from diverse backgrounds participated in the seminar titled ‘Listen to the Voices of the Youth’, organised by Royal Norwegian embassy in Dhaka and Plan International Bangladesh at the Norwegian ambassador’s residence in Dhaka.

Addressing the seminar as a keynote speaker, Nasima Akter Nishi said that skill development was required for the youths to move forward in the competitive society. In this regard support from NGOs, government, and corporates was needed to facilitate youth employment.

Inaugurating the event, Norwegian ambassador to Bangladesh Espen Rikter-Svendsen said that Bangladesh boasted a youthful population, yet the voices of young people were often overlooked in public discourse.

He stressed the need for engaging with the youth in finding solutions to the country’s and the world’s myriad challenges.

The youth participants proposed various strategies, including the establishment of startups and acquiring skills relevant to the evolving job market and entrepreneurial landscape.

They also highlighted the importance of disability inclusion within institutions and workplaces.

Kabita Bose, country director of Plan International Bangladesh, delivered welcoming address, while Nishath Sultana, director for Policy, Advocacy, Influencing, and Campaigns, offered closing remarks.
