Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development organised a seminar at its Mainamati auditorium on the occasion of 'BARD Day', marking its 65th anniversary on Monday.

Rural Development and Cooperatives Division secretary Shahanara Khatun was present as chief guest in the seminar presided over by BARD director general Saif Uddin Ahmed.


BARD director Ranjan Kumar Guha presented the keynote paper in the seminar titled ‘My Village My Town: Role of Local Government’.

Professor Taibur Rahman, Department of Development Studies, University of Dhaka and Professor M Aminul Islam Akand, Department of Economics, Comilla University discussed on the topic.

Shahanara Khatun said that BARD played the pioneer role in the rural development of Bangladesh. BARD's pilot projects have been implemented across Bangladesh. He hoped that the recommendations of the seminar would play an important role in implementing the concept of 'My Village My City'.

BARD director Abdullah Al Mamun conducted the seminar while deputy director Rakhi Nandi assisted him, said a press release.

Blood donation programme, reunion and banquets, milad mahfil, BARD publications and product exhibitions, folk music performances, tree planting and sports competitions were also organised on the occasion of the foundation anniversary celebrations. The academy was brightly illuminated to mark BARD’s 65th anniversary.
